It is used for freshly blow dried hair -- not on wet hair as is typical with other hairstyling appliances. It works similar to hot rollers because you roll sections of hair while leaving the roller in to cool and set. The main benefit is that it is very easy to use!

• It allows you to create large, loose curls and hair with lots of volume. 
• It allows you to get big bouncy hair because the wand and the curlers are easy to use.
